End Of An Era

End Of An EraFerdinand Alexander Porsche, grandson of the Porsche founder, has died aged 76. He designed the original Porsche 911, as well as more modern machinery.

He also created the Mercedes-Benz Kompressor and Volkswagen Beetle. But he was most famous for the 911, so unchanged throughout the decades that followed, which made its debut in 1963 at the Frankfurt Motorshow.

He left Porsche in 1972 after designing various racing cars, but remained involved in a supervisory status until the mid-2000s.

Matthias Müller, CEO of Porsche AG said that "as creator of the Porsche 911, he established a design culture that moulds our sports cars still today. His philosophy of good design is for us a legacy that we will also honour in the future."
